Senior Inter Counties Fell Championship – 19th May 2018 – Crowden

Tess Strain competed in the Inter County Fell Championships on Saturday 19th May – at the Lads Leap race in Crowden, Peak District. Tess set off sensibly up the first climb with the leading group, in the separate women’s race starting at 12 noon on a hot sunny day. She finished an impressive 4th place for Middlesex (3rd English runner) in 55.16 for the tough 6.5miler, not far behind the breakaway group of eventual winner, Yorkshire’s Emma Clayton (53.58), North Wales’ u23 Bronwen Jenkinson (54.06) and Warwickshire’s Emma Gould (54.29).

Thanks to her performance, Tess was back in fell running action on Saturday 2nd June at Sedbergh in the Lake District, representing England in the Home International race, finishing 7th in 59.59 and helping England to team gold.

This was also the trial for the British Athletics European Mountain Running Championships but unfortunately it looks like Tess, who is a past winner of the Snowdon International Mountain race, will miss out on the trip to Skopjie, Macedonia on 1st July.
