Middlesex Track and Field Championships 2026 – Review
It was a tale of two extremes at this year’s championships with warm sunshine on the Saturday and cold overcast conditions on Sunday. The first year of the new age groups effectively meant the youngest athletes had to wait another year to compete saw 519 Athletes registered and 779 performances with 25 Championship Best Performances. The 45 Senior Men signed up for the 100m was a record for the County however the U20 age group in particular was impacted by losing a year of athletes. performances. County President Alima Diabate presented the medals.
Alastair Aitken reports:-
The first day was lovely warm sunshine and there were some good results. The one that stood out for me was Sonny Allen, who was the surprise National Cross country Champion this year. Allen. set a new CPB of 9:55.33 last year for 3000 and this year a new CPB also in the Under 18’s for 1500 of 4:24.79 beating the CPB of Posie Shaw ho did 4:31.90 last year.
Sonny Allen took command from the gun and looked smooth all the way,
Allen, who studies at Marylebourne School, Baker Street remarked ” I came to try and beat the Championships best and use the race as a time trial”
Her Highgate coach Errol Peak, who was a runner himself, said “She is very bright and never makes the same mistake twice ever. She is a joy to coach”
In the Under 14’s Brentwood’s’ Sophie Davis won. which was impressive as she is only 11 years old. She did a 1500 PB of 4:39.01
The Men’s 100m Final was interesting when Christian Anuyagu of NEB ran a PB of 10.65 from lane 5. He does not like doing the 200 so concentrates on his favourite event the100. He is a Senior Data Analyst for an energy company”
