Past-President Maureen Smith passed away in peacefully on 16th August.
She was an accomplished middle distance runner. Highlights of her career included running 4:53.6 for the mile at White City in 1957, and winning the WAAA mile championships the following year.
After her retirement from competition she was deeply involved in the organisation of the sport. She was Secretary of the Middlesex County WAAA and later their President. She also served at President for North of Thames CC Association, SEAA, Middlesex AA, and English Cross Country Association. She was Secretary of Southern Women’s Cross Country and Road Walking Association and Chairman of the South of England Cross Country Association.
