British Inter-Counties Senior Mountain Race – Sunday 21st April

Team Manager Andy Owen reports that we fielded a full men’s team at Keswick on Sunday 21st April and finished 13th out of 22 complete teams in the British Inter-Counties Senior Mountain Race.

Only Devon (12th) were just ahead of the southern teams and we edged out Essex (14th) and were well clear of Hertfordshire (18th).  The race was won by Kris Jones of Scotland East in 1:05.17 but with only one other team member, in 4th place they failed to finish a team.

U23 Rafe Man (St Mary’s University) was our first runner home in 43rd place (1:17.34), having also competed in the GB Uphill Trial race on Friday.  Veteran Joe Dale (VPH) wasn’t too far behind in 52nd place in 1:19.32 with Euan Brown (Hallamshire) completing the team in 73rd in 1:26.32 from 107 finishers.

It was a tough course but good running conditions in amazing scenery.  For anyone wanting to give fell/mountain running a try a bit closer to home:

The Orion Harriers’ John Clarke Memorial Fell Race on 21 June 2024 is the only category A Fell Race inside the M25 – 5Km

South of England Fell Championships, Ventnor, Isle of Wight 7-8 September 2024 (3 races over two days – 4Km, 12Km and 20Km)

It’d be great to get both men’s and women’s teams out next year.
